love stinks

i arrived at new urban arts yesterday to mentor and one of my usually chipper students was particularly down. when i asked why he said "i hate valentine's day. it never ends how i want." i wanted to talk about how valentine's day is all about different kinds of love, and spring time and gifts, but then i remembered the 16 year old me and said "we should blow something up."

after some serious brainstorming it was determined that an actual explosion or fire would be dangerous, so we opted to tear something up or burst through something. finally, a lightning bolt! i said "wanna make a giant banner with a heart and run through it?" thusly, this is what became of the afternoon:
